Model composition for primary 5: An argument

Standing under the shimmering glow of the gibbous moon, I stood by my window, pondering over the events of the day. A slow smile spread across my face as I reflected on my sister Katie’s forgiving attitude.

The day began like any other Thursday. Katie and I were contradicting each other, as I thought she had hidden my game set. “Tell me where you have hidden my game set!” I hollered at Katie while animatedly jumping on her bed, trying to get under my hair.

“For the umpteenth time, I did not take your game set,” Katie retorted, flinging her pillow at me. I smirked, as I knew I was pestering her. I started coughing in an exaggerated manner in order to get her distracted from her studies and reveal the location of my game set.

“This is the last straw!” Katie bellowed at me, grounding her teeth in exasperation. Her mouth then spewed unintelligible words, which only served to show her pent-up emotions. “Fine, if you won’t tell me where my game set is, then take this!” I yelled as I lunged for Katie’s homework, which she had spent an hour doing. What happened next was jaw-dropping.

I only meant to take her worksheet, but my excess force resulted in the paper being torn to bits. Still reeling from shock, I hightailed it to my capacious bedroom. The consequences of my actions floated into my consciousness with every step.

I went inside my room and locked the door. Obstinate by nature, my room was always a pigsty. As I moved some papers to make space to sit, I found my game set. I heaved a sigh of relief, but I felt a pang of guilt as I had argued with Katie for no reason. Without a second’s thought, I knew I had to apologise to Katie.

As I trudged to Katie’s room, I wished fervently that I could undo my treacherous act. Plucking up my courage, I knocked on Katie’s bedroom door. “Come in!” boomed Katie’s voice. “Look, I’m really sorry for tearing up your homework and arguing with you. It was wrong of me to do so. I should have searched my room before accusing you of taking my game set. I hope you can forgive me,” I apologised profusely.

Even though Katie was visibly distraught, I could see the corners of her mouth twitch to form a smile. Even though I was nasty and argued with her for no reason, Katie was elated that I apologised to her. Reflecting on what a forgiving sister I had, I vowed never to argue with my sister again.

“A penny for your thoughts, Jash?” my mother asked, snapping me out of my reverie. As my mother tucked me in bed, I thought to myself, “This is the best ending for such an eventful day.” I would learn from this argument and try not to repeat it in the future.
